Shoppers in Coalville have once again dug deep and helped to raise nearly £300 for local charity, the Leicester Kidney Patientsí Association.Presenters from Hermitage FM, a local community radio station that broadcasts throughout North West Leicestershire, visited the Belvoir Shopping Centre during November and collected donations from shoppers during a live, two hour outside broadcast. All the proceeds from the day were divided between Hermitage FM and the Leicester Kidney Patientsí Association, a charity close to the heart of Anthony Paul, Hermitage FMís breakfast show presenter. Anthony is currently receiving dialysis whilst waiting for a kidney transplant after being diagnosed with kidney failure in 2000. As part of the fundraising effort for the Kidney Patientsí Association, Paul carried out a sponsored 24 hour non-stop marathon radio broadcast, which raised over £2000 to which the Belvoir Shopping Centreís £300 was added. A spokesperson for the Belvoir Shopping Centre said: “Shoppers at the Belvoir Centre never cease to amaze me with their generosity. Whenever we hold a charity collection we always manage to raise impressive amounts of money.
"The Leicester Kidney Patientsí Association is a fantastic cause and does a lot of hard work locally. It was a pleasure to be able to help them out; it was also great to see the local radio presenters at the shopping centre.”
